Hair-care tips for getting the hair you want, now!

01. Heat Wave

Avoid using the hottest setting on your hair dryer, as it can be damaging to your strands, especially if you’re pairing it with another hot tool, like a flat iron.

02. Blow Dry 101

Always try to opt for the warm setting on your dryer and hold the dryer 6 to 8 inches from your tresses. Be sure to point the airflow down on the hair shaft to prevent frizz.

03. Long Locks

Taking care of longer tresses requires frequent trims (every six to eight weeks) and conditioning the ends every other day to prevent dry out.

04. Naturally Curly

Revive your curls with dry shampoo. Simply spritz your hair and run your fingers through as if you were pulling it up into a ponytail.

05. Break Bad Habits

Stress, smoking, and bad eating habits can make your hair dull and prone to breakage.

06. Animal Instinct

Use a natural-bristle brush, it is softer and more flexible, which means less damage to your hair.

07. Avoid Breakage

Your hair is its most fragile when wet, so avoid excessive brushing or combing until it’s most dry.

08. Fight Frizz

After conditioning, rinse your hair with cold water. This helps to seal the cuticle, making it harder for moisture to enter the hair follicle, which can cause frizz.

09. Straight Talk

If you straighten your hair, start with an anti-frizz serum to create a moisture barrier and add a heat protectant to prevent your strands from being damaged while styling.

10. Pump Up The Volume

Spritz a volumizing spray at your roots when your hair is dry, then flip your hair over and blow-dry. Finally, gently smooth out any stray strands with a brush.

Hair Foiling Is Your Answer To Jaw-Dropping Party Hair

Ah, the holidays. What is it about the most wonderful time of the year that happily turns us all into look-at-me disco balls? The second we start to feel festive, covering ourselves head-to-toe in all things glitter and gold suddenly seems like a totally reasonable idea. With rainbow-glitter braids and metallic hair tattoos already on our radar, we’ve discovered yet another festive OTT look to add to our must-try list this holiday season: hair foiling.

The easy technique adds the perfect amount of tinsel-y sparkle to any style and it can be as noticeable or as subtle as you’d like.

Kevin Murphy stylist Sarah Lund created the full look with nothing but a large curling iron, a lot of hairspray, and the same type of foil you can track down at your local craft store. Just place small pieces wherever you want to emphasize as the last step in your style — Lund recommends along the part or right on the section of hair you’ve tucked behind your ear.

What are you waiting for? Go perfect your hair-foiling technique before it’s time to pull it out for a party. We have a feeling this look going to take a little bit of practice.

Sun Damage and Spray Tans

We all love the feeling of the spring/summer sunshine on our skin. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, on a boat ride with friends or playing an outdoor sport, there’s nothing like it… but did you know that our skin is very easily damaged by the sunshine we love so dearly? Take a trip to the beach, Florida or the islands and your susceptibility grows even more.

Let’s talk about your skin and important springtime and summertime events: proms, weddings, engagement parties and graduations. If your skin has been damaged (even the slightest bit pink) in the weeks leading up to your big event, simply let us know a few days before your visit and we’ll devise the perfect plan to get your skin spray-tan ready. If the underlying skin is unhealthy, the damage can cause the tan to incorrectly adhere to your skin and cause peeling, the chest area being especially vulnerable.

BEFORE EXFOLIATION

Here are three pro tips to ensure you look your most beautiful for your upcoming event:

  1. Use a high SPF sunscreen (especially on your chest, shoulders and face) at all times the month prior to the event.
  2. Evaluate your skin a week before your spray tan. This is important at every age; teenage skin is just as likely to be damaged as mature skin.
  3. If you remember any pinkness or tightness at any time in the month prior, contact GorgeousGLO a week before your spray tan. We have fast and easy pH balancing and skin regenerating treatments which will quickly heal vulnerable skin. This will allow for your beautiful skin to shine through at any upcoming special event.
